Marriage, Children & Child Care
Marriage
Proposing requires 500 Confidence with your partner and 1× Luxury Jewelry. It's instant if your partner is an NPC; a real-player partner must accept. Divorce is free if mutual, or costs the initiator 25% of their total wealth as a settlement if forced.
Your spouse is remembered next to you in the family tree of My Dynasty, even if they die before you. A divorce removes them.
Having children
- Biological (opposite-sex real-player couples only): costs 25 Energy per attempt; success chance =
0.80 × (50 − mother's age) / (50 − 22)— about 80% at age 22 or younger, dropping to 0% at 50. A Fertility Treatment item adds a flat +30% for one year. - Adoption (any couple): guaranteed success, no Energy cost, but costs $15,000 per real-player parent ($30,000 total if both partners are real players).
Child care
Instead of a flat fee, each minor child consumes 1 Food item + 1 Clothes item from a parent's inventory every year (lowest quality used first), consumed after the parent's own food. Missing one type incurs a $1,000 fine, missing both a $2,000 fine. If a parent goes 2 consecutive years without providing full supplies, that parent loses custody of the child. A homeless parent (no housing) loses custody of all minor children immediately. The one exception is a home lost through no fault of the parent — the landlord's property being seized for unpaid tax, or its owner dying with no heir or leaving the game — which grants one year of grace: the annual report carries a final warning instead, and custody is only lost if the parent is still homeless a year later.
Children turn 18 and become eligible heirs automatically as the game clock advances. In the family tree of My Dynasty they grow as buds above you, the eldest marked as your heir.
The family dog
A family dog eats from the same backpack, after you and after your children, so it never takes their food. It follows the same rules as children for a missing meal (a $1,000 fine, and the dog is taken away after 2 years in a row) and for losing your home, one-year grace included.
