Banking & Loans
Your credit limit is $300 flat if unemployed, otherwise expected wage × 5, where expected wage already factors in your experience and education multiplier.
State Loan
- Interest rate: 20% default (law-adjustable, 1–50%).
- Fixed 10 annual instalments: 10% of the original principal per year, plus interest on the remaining balance.
- A single state loan is capped at 5% of the national treasury.
Private Bank Loan
- Only a player who owns a Private Bank and holds the Economics Degree can offer loan products — up to 5 per bank.
- Each product: interest rate 1–20%, term 1–20 years, simple interest (total repayable = principal × (1 + rate% × years)).
- Requests are not instant — they sit as pending until the bank owner approves them, and auto-expire after 1 year unanswered.
- 1% of every collected instalment feeds the Bank Guarantee Fund. If a borrower misses payments for 2 consecutive years, the loan defaults, the borrower is blacklisted from new private loans for 5 years, and the Fund reimburses the bank 80% of the remaining principal.
No new loan of any kind can be taken while your money balance is negative.
💵 My Money — Your Personal Ledger
The My Money panel on the Home page records every change to your balance automatically. There is nothing to switch on, and it costs you nothing: it is only read when you open it. It has two tabs.
- 🧾 Movements — your 20 most recent transactions, one per row: what the money was for (wages, rent, taxes, shopping, casino, item market, shares, loans…), how much came in or went out, and your balance immediately after.
- 📅 By year — the last 5 game years. Each year shows its net result, and opens up into per-category totals with money in, money out and how many movements made up each line.
Yearly totals are written at the annual tick and are complete: when an old transaction drops off the 20-row Movements list, it still counts inside its year's figures. The first yearly total appears at the end of the game year in which you start playing.
🔐 Safe Deposit Boxes
A private bank can fit out up to 5 safe deposit boxes and rent them to other players. You can rent one box at a time, from any bank in any nation — the market is international. Find them under 🏦 Finance → 🔐 Safe Deposit.
A box holds up to 20 special items and $50,000 in cash. What is inside does not count against your 10 backpack slots, and the cash cannot be pickpocketed or robbed — it has genuinely left your pocket. It still counts as your wealth: in the leaderboards, in a divorce settlement and in your estate, inheritance tax included.
The trade-off is that a box is a vault, not a bag: an item locked inside cannot be used, equipped or sold until you take it out, and taking it out needs a free backpack slot.
Rent
- The bank sets the annual rent, with a floor of $100/yr. It can only be changed while the box is empty.
- The first year is due when you sign. After that the rent is collected at every year change.
- The bank keeps 90%; 10% goes to the nation of the bank's owner as a fixed tax. The rent you pay is the full figure — the tax is not added on top.
- If your pockets can't cover the rent, it is taken from the cash inside the box. You only lose the box when neither can cover it.
- You cannot rent a box in your own bank.
Losing a box — whose fault it is decides what happens
This is the rule worth remembering, because the two outcomes are very different.
- Your doing (you close the box, or you fail to pay): you take back whatever fits in your backpack and the rest is destroyed. Before a voluntary closure the game lists, item by item, exactly what you are about to lose.
- The bank's doing (it gives notice, raises the rent, removes the box, or shuts down): nothing of yours is destroyed. Whatever doesn't fit in your backpack goes to your Temporary Deposit, and the cash always comes back to your pocket.
For the bank owner
- Each box costs $500 from the bank's account plus 1 Steel + 1 Microchip from your own inventory. Owning a private bank is what lets you buy those two wholesale as a person.
- Every box needs 1 Microchip every 5 years of servicing, taken from your inventory. Miss it and the fine is $2,500 — paid by the bank's account first, and out of your own pocket for whatever it can't cover, even into debt. Things To Do warns you a year ahead.
- Servicing is owed on empty boxes too: it is your equipment, not a service to the tenant.
- You cannot see what a tenant keeps inside. The panel shows who rents which box and at what price — never the contents. That is the whole point of a safe deposit box.
