Inheritance & Dynasty
How inheritance works in Dynasty: estate tax, what the heir keeps, and how the next generation begins at age 18.
- Total estate = personal cash + all owned companies' treasury funds.
- Inheritance tax (default 20%, law-adjustable up to 100%) is applied, reducible by certain items'
inheritance_tax_reductionbonus. - The net amount transfers to the heir, along with all real estate, company ownership, equipped/special items, and a guaranteed random rare family heirloom item. Any outstanding debts and loans also carry over.
- The family dog passes to the heir too, with its age, stats, bowl and Dog Show titles, and so does the right to a free puppy if the last dog died of old age. A dog entered in this year's Dog Show stays entered and competes for the heir. Without an heir, the dog goes to a new family outside the game.
- If the eligible heir is still a minor, they're instantly aged to 18, and the estate additionally pays the state
(18 − their age) × $600in remaining child-years debt on top of the inheritance tax. - The heir is reborn at age 18 with health/happiness/energy reset to 100, education and specialisations wiped, job reset to unemployed, and criminal record cleared. The generation counter increases by 1.
- The character who died gets their portrait in the family tree of My Dynasty: the title they are remembered for, a frame earned with the glory points of their life, their epitaph and the heirloom they left. The heir starts with a blank epitaph, and the Ship's Log has a button to open the tree.
Degree-gating: because education resets on inheritance, an heir who inherits a licensed business (Private Bank, Restaurant, Medical Clinic, Gym, Beauty Salon, Law Firm) can keep owning it, sell it, or collect its residual profits — but cannot personally work a shift there, and for a Private Bank cannot set interest rates or add new loan/insurance products, until they earn the matching degree or certificate themselves. Existing rates/products stay frozen at whatever the previous generation last set.
Without an heir, the dynasty ends permanently: assets are seized by the state and auctioned, and you must start a brand-new character from scratch.
Two things change this at 70+. You can hand over on your own terms through the rest home instead of waiting for the dice — and if you die of natural causes past 70 with health below 50, the estate is charged $20,000 for intensive care. The same charge applies at any age if you die with health at 30 or below, and reaching 0 health is death with no dice roll at all. That charge is the only one in the game that can leave an heir starting in debt. See The Third Age and Food, Health & Death.
