Items & Equipment

Items fall into a few categories: equipment (cars, clothes, jewelry — equipped for ongoing bonuses, degrading over time), consumables (food, energy drinks, medical/fitness/beauty vouchers, legal vouchers, fertility treatment), and special items — rare collectibles with passive bonuses.

Dog Vaccines and Vet Visits are consumables too, but only for a family dog: they have no Use button in the backpack and are given from the Vaccinate and Vet Visit buttons under Social › 🐕 My Dog.

Rarity tiers

RarityHow obtained
Common (white)~5% random drop during milestones
Uncommon (green)~50% chance on key milestones (e.g. founding a company)
Rare (blue)Guaranteed on inheritance; also awarded by some missions
Epic (purple)Elections, government achievements, deterministic wealth/generation thresholds
Legendary (gold)Completing your Life Aspiration; a handful of other exceptional milestones

Selected examples: Prime Minister Sash and Grand Cross of Civil Merit (extra law-vote weight, degrade per vote cast rather than per year), Family Diamond (+15% all income), Dynasty Codex (−15% inheritance tax, +20 Status), Network of Influence (encounters ×2, +10 Social/year). Most special items have a yearly durability that depletes and eventually destroys the item; only one special item can be equipped at a time.

Backpack limit — 10 special items

A character carries 10 special items. The counter is shown at the top of your backpack, and everything you own counts towards it: the item you have equipped, wine bottles ageing in your cellar, and items you have listed on the item market (an item on sale is still yours until someone buys it).

When your backpack is full

A new item is never destroyed because you ran out of room. It waits for a decision, and until you make that decision it cannot be used, equipped or sold. You then choose to either burn one of the items you already carry, making room for the new one, or let the new item go. The list of candidates starts from your least valuable item, so a legendary is never the first thing under your thumb.

Up to 5 items can be waiting at any one time. Beyond that, further rewards are genuinely lost — so settle the queue rather than letting it fill up.

Nothing you actively choose to do is ever blocked by a full backpack. Buying on the market, pressing a bottle of wine and finishing a book all go ahead; you are simply warned first that a decision will be waiting for you. The one exception is a market purchase when your backpack and your waiting list are both full — that is refused before any money leaves your account, because the item would have nowhere to go.

Temporary Deposit

Players who already owned more than 10 special items when the limit was introduced keep every one of them. The 10 most valuable stayed in the backpack; the rest moved into a personal Temporary Deposit, shown directly beneath it.

The deposit only ever shrinks. Nothing can be put into it — not a new reward, not a purchase, not an inherited item. From it you can:

Items kept in the deposit cannot be equipped: move one into your backpack first, which requires a free slot. A deposit passes to your heir along with the rest of your estate, and once its last item is gone the deposit disappears for good.

Wine kept in the deposit continues to age normally — it is still yours. An item still waiting for your decision does not: it is not yours yet.
